Gayla began self-publishing her fiction in 2007. She writes whatever strikes her fancy.

A lifelong animal lover, she began volunteering with the Friends of the Brownfield Animal Shelter around 2015, and worked as an Animal Control Officer from late July 2017 to September 2021.
